Heroic Shannox Guide
This heroic Shannox guide will hopefully assist you in defeating the flamewakers – the most feared elemental guardians in the Firelands. Among them is Shannox, serving as the chief hunter and kennel master of Ragnaros’s hell hounds. Shannox patrols the elemental realm with his two most ferocious beasts: Riplimb and Rageface.

Abilities
Heroic Shannox
Immolation Trap – Heroic Shannox launches a fiery trap at a random player’s location. The trap arms after 2 seconds, then detonates when either a player or one of Heroic Shannox’s pets steps over the trap. Immolation Trap inflicts 120 000 Fire damage, 300 000 Fire damage every 3 sec., and increases the target’s damage taken by 40% for 9 seconds.
Crystal Prison Trap – Heroic Shannox launches a prison trap at a random player’s location. The trap arms after 2 seconds, then detonates when either a player or one of Heroic Shannox’s pets steps over the trap. The Crystal Prison trap encases the target in a block of magma crystal, preventing all movement and any other action. Destroying the crystal prison frees a trapped player.
Arcing Slash – Heroic Shannox inflicts 125% of normal melee damage in a 120 degree cone up to 10 yards in front of him, and inflicts Jagged Tear on his current target.
Jagged Tear – Heroic Shannox’s Arcing Slash leaves a Jagged Tear that inflicts 4 000 physical damage every 3 sec. for 30 sec. This effect stacks.
Hurl Spear – Heroic Shannox hurls his spear at a location near Riplimb. When the spear lands it inflicts 120 000 physical damage to all enemies within 3 yards and 50 000 Fire damage to all enemies within 50 yards. The spear strike also triggers a cascade of molten eruptions around the impact location, inflicting 125 000 Fire damage to enemies caught in an eruption.
Riplimb will then break off from combat, fetch the spear, and return it to Shannox.
Frenzy – When the players defeat Riplimb or Rageface, Heroic Shannox enters a frenzy. This increases his Physical damage by 30% and attack speed by 30%. This effect stacks twice.
Riplimb
Riplimb will attack the target with the most threat.
Limb Rip – Riplimb savagely bites his current target, inflicting 130% of normal melee damage and inflicting Jagged Tear
Jagged Tear – Riplimb’s Limb Rip eaves a Jagged Tear that inflicts 8 000 physical damage every 3 sec. for 30 sec. This effect stacks.
Feeding Frenzy – Riplimb’s successful melee attacks increase his physical damage dealt by 5% for 20 sec. This effect stacks.
Rageface
Rageface cannot be controlled, and darts about from enemy to enemy, changing targets periodically.
Face Rage – Rageface leaps at a random player, stunning and knocking them to the ground. Rageface begins to viciously maul the player, inflicting 6 000 Physical damage every 0.50 sec. and the damage dealt increases over time. While Rageface mauls the player, he is 1 000% more susceptible to critical strikes.
Rageface will continue the mauling until his target is dead, or he receives a single attack that deals at least 45 000 damage.
Feeding Frenzy – Rageface’s successful melee attacks increase his physical damage dealt by 5% for 20 sec. This effect stacks.
Heroic Shannox Positioning Guide
Players should be loosely spread out in-between Heroic Shannox and Rageface tank locations. Players will need to kite the dogs successfully into traps and remain observant of different debuff stacks. Most of the difficult positioning will go to the tanks, who must keep the dogs at proper distances from each other while remaining players need to be mindful of Rageface Feeding Frenzy stacks. Two players who are assigned to Rageface in order to break the Face Rage will need to position themselves on opposite ends in order to cover anyone getting targeted.
Heroic Shannox Strat Guide
Heroic Shannox is all about removing the dog’s Feeding Frenzy buff as well as the tank’s Jagged Tear debuff. For the majority of the fight, however, Shannox on heroic mode is very much like normal mode. Unlike normal mode however neither of the dogs will be killed and all DPS bar two should be focused on the boss. The big addition is that your raid will now have to successfully trap Rageface in Crystal Prison Traps multiple times in order to defeat the encounter. For the most part however this fight is a one-phase burn. You can use Bloodlust / Heroism on the pull as its most optimal.
Begin the fight as you normally would with your main tank picking up Heroic Shannox while your offtank picks up Riplimb. Rageface is still left free to jump around the raid face raging. Your raid will need a lot more space to be more mobile during the heroic version of this encounter, room for kiting both Riplimb and Rageface need to be available as well as room to move away from the buildup of traps.
Reset Jagged Tear stacks the same way as your raid would on normal mode. Kite Riplimb while the spear is being thrown and slow him to make his fetch skills take longer than normal. If done correctly this should also reset Riplimb’s Feeding Frenzy buff, crystal prison traps can also be used to assist this but isn’t necessary. To do this successfully you will need the tanks to be roughly 95 yards apart, anymore than 100 and the dogs gain separation anxiety and quickly kill their targets in this case the tanks.
We use a warrior tank on Riplimb if possible. When the spear location is selected, he intervenes one of his healers and is then Heroic Leap / Charges into melee. This pulls the dog close to the boss so that he has about 80 yards to run back to the spear, then back to the boss and then finally back to our tank who has repositioned himself at his normal 100 yard away location.
If this is done correctly that means that all your raid needs to worry about is how to reset Rageface’s Feeding Frenzy. As per normal mode, you’ll want to sit 2 or 3 of your heavy hitters on Ragface in order to instantly break his Face Rage ability, 2 is generally enough but its always better to be safe than sorry (Arcane Mages are best for this as their spells have no cast time and are big numbers, Warlocks and Balance Druids are also suggested). In between this however, he will run to different people to randomly melee them. This will, of course, stack his Feeding Frenzy buff. The player being attacked by him will need to run the dog through a Crystal Prison Trap in order to freeze him momentarily. The trap duration alone is not enough to reset the Feeding Frenzy stacks. Once Rageface is trapped, the entire raid will need to be aware and move away from his trap location about 20-30 yards is sufficient, this needs to be done in order to avoid getting melee hit and refreshing his feeding frenzy stacks.
Every individual will need to know Rageface’s next target in order to kite him if it is on them this is to make 100% sure that the Feeding Frenzy buff drops, it might help to have one of the Heavy Hitters on him call out his target so they can kite, speed shields help here as well as Rocket Boost etc but as long as the person moves when it is on them it isn’t necessary. When he does break Feeding Frenzy buff will have minimal duration if it hasn’t already dropped so don’t panic and make sure you kite him for a few seconds. Its also important to remember if Rageface is run over an Immolation Trap he can not be trapped again for 25 seconds so whoever is targeted needs to try and make sure it doesn’t happen.
Another important change is that neither dog will gain the Frenzied Devotion buff when Heroic Shannox’s health reaches 30%. This means your raid does not need to waste time killing them during the encounter. Once Heroic Shannox reaches 30%, your raid will want to focus all DPS on him and simply burn him down before the dogs get out of hand. Continue to stick Rageface into Crystal Prison Traps if you can for the remainder of the encounter and should be an easy kill.
